Learn about Jill M. Fellow and her work for Utah

Jill M. Fellow is a writer, activist, and University Executive who knows Utah and fights to protect public lands, equal rights, and inclusive communities for all. In 2020, Jill ran for Summit County Council in an effort to shine light on the lack of gender diversity within city and county councils around the Beehive State. In 2021, she was elected as the Secretary of the Utah Democratic Party, where she currently serves.

“The Utahns I know and love have a beautiful passion for family, a beautiful compassion for people – and our government and the laws that we pass don't always align with that value system,” she said on KPCW in March 2022. “We're not listening to each other enough to create the laws and policies that are really going to help everybody thrive. If no one else is going to stand up and do that for my neighbors, then I'm going to be that person. I am happy to do this work if it means we all get real change.”

Jill started her career in journalism and media literacy in an effort to make sure the Utah K-12 curriculum included standards to teach children how to interpret and understand media messaging, advertising, and credible sources. She has since spent 10 years designing learning experiences to help adult learners get degrees when they return to college later in life. Her research and learning designs continue to build alternative pathways to opportunity for underserved adults around the country.

In 2020, Jill designed the first virtual state convention for the Utah Democratic Party and moderated the gubernatorial debates. In addition to her role as a Democratic Party officer, she currently serves as the Chair of the Utah Women’s Democratic Caucus and as a board member for EATS Park City and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She is focused on using Nonviolent Communication and other leadership principles to help all people heighten their civil discourse as they strive for solutions, acceptance, and ways to contribute to Utah’s future.

Jill is a long-time Utahn committed to Utah families and the Utah values of industry, kindness, and inclusion. With two degrees from Brigham Young University, Jill has studied Utah history and culture from all angles and can write and support laws that represent all types of Utahns. She is running to represent the residents of Utah Senate District 20 in Wasatch, Summit, Duchesne, Daggett, and Uintah Counties. She has spent several years working with lawmakers to learn their perspectives and views, and she is ready to communicate the needs of her constituents on the senate floor in 2023.  Her platform is focused on environmental issues, affordable housing, protecting Utahns from inflation, and advancing equal rights for all.

Specifically she is running to:

  • Diversify the Utah legislature to add the voices of women and the underserved to the democratic process

  • Protect Utah’s Public lands and open space for all Utah families to enjoy

  • Cut food taxes

  • Build and support safe, inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ youth in the Beehive State

  • Design new, ethical solutions to Utah’s water shortage, and pass laws that hold water districts accountable for corrupt lobbying and over spending

  • Promote clean, expanded public transit in the Wasatch back and across Rural Utah

  • Address the housing shortage for all Utah communities

  • Fight against laws that take body autonomy away from Utahns

Jill is a volunteer for Planned Parenthood and coaches youth soccer. She lives in Summit County with her four children and uses social media platforms – such as Facebook and Tiktok – to address political issues and highlight creative co-parenting ideas for Utah’s many beautiful blended families. When she is not fighting injustice and marching in Pride parades, she loves to hike and write novels for children.
